Simone Biles
Simone Arianne Biles (/sI’moUn ‘baI@lz/; March 14, 1997, [4]) is an American artistic gymnast. The seven Olympic medals are tied with Shannon Miller for the most Olympic medals won by an American gymnast, and she is equal to ninth overall. Having won 25 World Championship medals, she is the most accomplished gymnast ever to compete at the Gymnastics World Championships. She is considered by many sources as the best gymnast of all time. In 2022, Biles was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Joe Biden. In the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Biles took home individual gold medals for the vault, all-around and floor; bronze medals on balance beam; and gold as part of the United States team, dubbed the "Final Five".At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where Biles was predicted to take home at most four of the six available gold medals. She was forced to withdraw from the most of the games because of her struggles with "the twisties", an intermittent loss of air balance. In the US team, she took home a medal on balance beam and a silver. The judges praised the partial withdrawal she had made, her her mental and physical fitness focus, endurance and determination to stay secure. She also is a five-time World all-around champion (2013-2015 and 2018-2019) as well as a five-time World floor exercise champion (2013-2015 and 2018-2019), three-time World champion on balance beam (2014-2015 2019, 2019), two-time World vault champion (2018-2019), a seven-time United States national all-around champion (2013-2016 and 2018-2019 until 2021) and was a part of the gold medal-winning American teams at the 2014, 2015 2018 and the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She is also an World silver medalist in the vault and balance beam (2013 and 2014), as well as three-time World bronze medalist in vault (2015 2013 and 2018 on bars that are uneven).
Biles is the gymnast who earned the most World gold medals (19) and World medals (25) in the world. She has also surpassed Vitaly Scherbo's record of 23 World medals. Biles won her 24thplace and 25th and both gold at Stuttgart's 2019 competition. Biles holds the record for having the highest number of all-around World titles (5). She is the sixth person to be awarded an individual all-around championship at the Olympics and World Championships. Biles is the tenth first American female gymnast to earn an overall World medal in every event. The feat was made during the 2018 World Championships. Biles was the youngest out of four siblings. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on March 14, 1997. The four kids were all placed between foster and adoption care. After finding out that Shanon's children were in foster care, Ron Biles (Biles' maternal grandfather) and Nellie Cayetano Biles (his second wife) started to care for Shanon in Spring, Texas. They took in Simone and Adria her younger sister, in 2003. Ron's sister Shanon's aunt Harriet adopted the two oldest kids. Biles, through her adoptive mother, is a holder of Belizean citizenship and calls Belize as her second home. Biles and her family are Catholic.
